Everywhere in Great Barrington, MA, there are beautiful daylilies! I had to restrain myself from shooting up an entire memory card full of photos of them--these deep red-orange ones are my favorites, but there are bright yellow with red centers, pale yellow, and traditional orange as well, all of which are gorgeous. We can't get over the gardens and window boxes and hanging plants on porches that flourish with little or no attention, getting just enough sun and rain all on their own with no help from humans. My main criterion when looking at houses to buy is that there be enough yard with enough sun and proper drainage to have a big garden!

On our way from Pittsfield to Great Barrington today, we took a short detour to visit the Guthrie Center at the church of "Alice's Restaurant" fame. It's a small hippie operation that today had a marionette troupe entertaining in the old sanctuary. And they were obviously very entertaining to the toddler who was visiting with her mom, because when Mom said it was time to go, the little girl started crying her head off! I'm glad to know that kids can still be entertained by old-fashioned puppets. The world hasn't gone entirely digital yet.

Tomorrow we drive to NJ to drop off the truck at Jesse's future in-laws (they've agreed to let us park it in their driveway while we're gone), have dinner with Jesse and Mike, and then go to JFK to get on our overnight British Airways flight for London. I won't be able to post any blogs from London until we find an internet cafe with computers, and I don't know if I'll be able to upload photos that way, so blogs from London may be pictureless. But I'll post photos when we get back, for sure!
