The heat here finally broke yesterday with an all-day heavy rain, after which I went wild-raspberry-picking around our property with Casey. I got about 6 pints of berries in half an hour of picking just along one hillside, and Casey chased a frog into the stinky pond. This morning it's raining very lightly, and birds are singing as the sun comes up. Casey is snoring behind me. I'm up at the crack of dawn because apparently my body-mind decided 4 hours was enough sleep for one night. Not being a Morning Person, I rarely get to enjoy this time of day. And I do enjoy it--so gentle and unprepossessing. It just does it's thing with hardly anyone noticing. Unremarked superfluous beauty. Like grace. All I could think yesterday while harvesting fistfuls of berries from vines that have thrived despite decades of mowing and weed-whacking and other assorted attempts to beat them back was, "What a marvelous embodiment of God's Abundance!" God's persistent abundance. My hands are purple with it.
