Michal gave me the honor of letting me arrange the flowers in the sanctuary; she chose calla lilies, white stargazer lilies, green Bells of Ireland, and curly willow twigs--an easy combination to make beautiful! (The hydrangea bouquet she carried was provided by the local florist.) James sang a Bruce Springsteen song, "Leap of Faith," during the ceremony, and Jesse was a "greeter," which included usher, witness on the certificate, and general Bride's Assistant for the day. My sister Sandy took lots of pictures, including this gorgeous one of the newly married couple recessing (thank you, Sandy). I decided not to bring my camera so that I could participate fully in the goings-on rather than burying myself behind the lens like I usually do. Cameras are great for introverts, but some occasions require me to go against my nature and jump into the dancing fray!
A quick update on other news:
- Our house in Tucson will "close" as soon as we sign all the papers and fax them back!
- We've put in a bid on a house here in Pittsfield and are now in negotiations over details of the sale--we should close on October 15.
- I was just hired at JoAnn Fabric & Craft Store, which is within easy walking distance of the house we're negotiating on, and which gives a 15% employee discount!!! I also interviewed at Sears Portrait Studio--they haven't made their final hiring decisions yet, but even if they offer it to me I'm going to stick with JoAnn's since it's a less stressful environment and the manager is really easygoing and flexible with scheduling. And I get a 15% employee discount!!!
- James's 3rd Sunday at the church here went well, and we've still only heard a couple of grumbles about "all the changes" he's making. I joined the choir, and since they were in serious need of altos (unusual for a church choir), I'm singing alto in a classical choir for the first time. Given all the rock & roll I've been doing the past few years, my high notes are getting pretty elusive anyway. But singing in the alto range in a classical style is enough different from rock & roll that I'll need to buff up the vocal chords so I can last through the Messiah in December!
