One Down

We had a wonderful trip back to Tucson this past weekend to participate in a wedding, and I'll write more about that later. Right now I just want to shout for joy that…I finally finished one room in the house! Here are pictures of the guest bathroom, finally completed to my satisfaction, with help from Jesse (thank you, Jesse!) who supplied some of the accessories. The twisty branches are from a tree in our backyard known as "Harry Lauder's Walking Stick" (see http://landscaping.about.com/od/floweringtrees/p/harry_lauder.htm for more info). I never in my life dreamed I would paint a bathroom PINK, but it just goes to show that we all have the potential to overcome our prejudices.

What does it say about me that the first room I finish in our new house is the guest bathroom? I'd like to think it speaks to my sincere desire to show hospitality. I know for sure it has to do with my deep-seated need for the bathroom to be the safest place in the house, so in making a home for guests I turn first to the bathroom. Our master bathroom is almost finished, too--I just have to add the ribbons to the shower curtain, one of those picayune jobs I keep putting off... Well, now that the guest bathroom is done, perhaps I'll be motivated to finish the last bit on our bathroom so it can be Done, too!

I also fashioned a pot rack/spice rack for the kitchen out of a shelf we took off a wall in another room, solving two problems for the price of a little effort and a few cup hooks, screws, and drywall anchors.

Now we just need to get some nicer-looking pots.
