In a Mood

unseasonable outburst

(the words came to me
in the bathtub
this afternoon
after a long and
not terrible but not great either
day at work)

like a blizzard in september
maybe
or a fit over nothing
needy for no good reason

my dog's gas

(should it be
unreasonable outburst?
i thought
well, yes, that makes more sense
in a language-y kind of way

but, no
it's unseasonable
this outburst
i'm having

a little invisible
blizzard
in september
wishing i weren't alone
then calling off a dinner date
with a friend

taking the scissors to my hair
turning lights on and then
off again
sitting in the near dark
by myself [humph, says the dog]
for no reason
to no purpose
just because i'm like that
[whispered unpleasantry from the dog's
backside]
sometimes)
