Acorn

Forced to sit on a heating pad on the couch most of the day every day for a few weeks now, I've had the opportunity to explore our Roku options. Our favorite  is Acorn TV (https://acorn.tv), a British channel—Brits have a great feel for quiet richness that I almost never find in American shows. Here in the States so much of our entertainment is fast-paced, high-tech, gritty, loud. Not that the Brits don't deal in all those things, but they have more on offer of shows about the gentle depths of human life.

I had long dismissed "Doc Martin" (https://acorn.tv/franchise/docmartin) as one of those broad British comedies that I'm not a fan of, but last week I decided to give it a look-see and found it to be a gentle show about the depth of human life. It has become a companion of my infirmity—and it has the advantage of several seasons available to watch!

My other favorite discovery is "Detectorists" (https://acorn.tv/franchise/detectorists), a quirky, very quiet comedy about two metal detectorists in Essex who are searching for Anglo-Saxon artifacts, usually turning up soda can pop-tops and the like. But the real action is in the characters and the relationships between them. Unfortunately there are only two seasons so far.

I ran out of episodes of the latest season of "Time Team (https://acorn.tv/franchise/timeteam)," my favorite time-passer of all. 😢

And, like always, I have found a new song to love. The theme song to "Detectorists":
