Take a bite of an apple. What comes into your mind?
- horses—we used to feed them the wild crabapples that grew all around our property
- hay—in the fall we'd go apple-picking at an orchard that had hay bales lining the path
- throwing wild apples—we'd sharpen the point of a long, flexible stick, ram the apple onto it, and whip it into the field out behind our cottage
- sour crabapples—we dared each other to eat them
- wormholes—with the occasional worm still inside
- Mom's homemade applesauce
- especially the pink kind when she left the peels on and kept it chunky
- the cinnamon kind was good, too
- the cider press—which I adopted after it had become a planter
- September
- "Delicious" apples—my dad's favorite, but too dry for me
- I'm a Macintosh fan
- for computers, too
- James doesn't like Macintosh apples—he prefers Delicious
- I love apples, but my stomach doesn't—maybe it's because of all those wild crabapples I ate as a kid

At the risk of offending my dear friend and your spouse, I will state that Delicious apples have had all the flavour bred out of them and are simply champions of long storage times. Give me Spartans any day.
Maybe that's a Canadian man thing... ;)
I don't think I've ever had a Spartan apple. I'll have to try one if I ever see them for sale around here.
Honeycrisp all the way, when I can get them. The kids also like Delicious. I think they taste like sawdust.
